An explosion occurred at the Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple Monastery in the city of Serpukhov, 65 miles south of Moscow, this morning.

The perpetrator is a graduate of the Orthodox school located next to the convent. It was intended to be a suicide bombing, though some sources are reporting that doctors managed to save the attacker.

According to the latest information, ten children were harmed in the bombing and are being treated in local hospitals.

The 18-year-old perpetrator graduated from the Orthodox school last year. An informed source told Interfax-Religion that the teen had endured bullying during his time at the school, and that his motive seems to have been anger towards the teachers and nuns.

A criminal investigation is underway.

Vladimir Legoida, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media, assured that the Church will provide the necessary aid to all the victims.
