Serbian Patriarch recovers from COVID

Belgrade, January 25, 2022

His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Church has recovered from COVID following a two-week bout with the virus.

The Serbian Church announced on January 11 that the Patriarch had tested positive for the coronavirus, though he was experiencing only mild symptoms.

A message on the Patriarch’s Instagram page read yesterday: “I thank God and His saints for the prayerful intercession that helped me recover from the coronavirus infection.”

The Patriarch thanks all who prayed for him and wishes health for all, that the Serbian faithful might gather on January 27 for the feast of the great St. Sava, the first Archbishop of the Serbian Church.

Pat. Porfirije’s predecessor Patriarch Irinej reposed in the Lord just over a year ago on November 20, 2020. His Grace Bishop Luke of the Serbian Diocese of Western Europe reposed in the Lord last month, and His Grace Bishop Lavrentije of Šabac reposed in the Lord on Sunday. His Grace Bishop Dimitri of Khornabuji and Hereti of the Georgian Orthodox Church also reposed on Sunday.
