His Holiness Patriarch Kirill is calling on all the faithful of the Moscow Patriarchate to offer up prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos throughout Lent for peace in Ukraine.

“We’re going through a difficult historical period today: All our thoughts, worries, and prayers are connected with the events taking place in Ukraine. But even in the most difficult times of trials, our people have sought help from the Most Holy Theotokos, who has always been a zealous intercessor and patroness of Holy Rus’,” Pat. Kirill said.

“During the days of Great Lent, when the Church stands before the Lord in repentance, I appeal to all of you, my dear ones, with an appeal to read the Canon to the Most Holy Theotokos, Sung in Every Spiritual Sorrow daily, together with the previously approved prayer for the restoration of peace,” the Russian primate continued.

“Let us turn our eyes and sighs to the zealous Intercessor of the Christian race, that through her unceasing maternal intercession, the Loving Lord might incline His mercy to our peoples and grant a strong and irrevocable peace,” he concluded.

Similarly, His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia called on all Georgian faithful to read a prayer to the Theotokos at noon today, and His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine has called on the Ukrainian faithful to read a chapter of the Gospel and make three prostrations every day during Lent as a prayer for peace.
