A hierarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Metropolitan Germanos of Tranoupolis, reposed in the Lord early this morning, reports Romfea.
His Eminence was 91 years old. He served as a hierarch of the Patriarchate for 49 years. As the Metropolitan of Tranoupolis, he oversaw the District of Stavrodromion within the city of Istanbul.
The Metropolitan was a musicologist and an expert in the Church typikon, and was known as a kind and loving man.

The future hierarch was born in Istanbul in 1931. He graduated from the Halki Theological School in 1954, and was later ordained to the diaconate on January 21, 1967. He was subsequently ordained to the priesthood on January 12, 1973, and served as rapporteur and codicographer of the Holy Synod.
On January 14, 1973, he was consecrated as Bishop of Tralles, auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Constantinople. On February 5, 1987, he was elected titular Metropolitan of Tranoupolis, and on October 2, 1990, he was elevated to the status of ruling Metropolitan of Tranoupolis.
