Hieromonk Partheny (Fedorchenko), the acting abbot of St. Elijah Monastery in the village of Varvarovka and rector of the Church of St. Theodosy of Chernigov in Mikhailovka, died as a result of a shrapnel wound on Tuesday, May 3, reports the Severodonetsk Diocese.

Fr. Partheny was 64 years old.

According to the Readovka Telegram channel, he was greatly beloved by the locals. He sheltered more than 300 refugees and tried to help everyone in need. He was reportedly on his way to meet with a volunteer who supplied humanitarian convoys when he was struck with shrapnel and died.

The Lugansk People’s Republic attributes the shelling to the Ukrainian Army, and various outlets such as VK Press write that there were no Russian soldiers in the village, while the Ukrainian Lugansk Province State Administration attributes the shelling to the Russian army.

May Fr. Partheny’s memory be eternal!
