In his homily on the feast of the preeminent Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine spoke about an enduring truth of the Christian life—that all Christians must live according to the commandments of God—those laws of life proclaimed to the world by the Apostles.

“They taught people to do the will of God, to love God, to love their neighbor. And we live by these laws today,” His Beatitude preached, reports the UOC’s Information-Education Department.

The Ukrainian primate spoke about the life path of the Apostles and called on the faithful to learn from them how to serve the Lord. From the Apostle Paul, Met. Onuphry said, “we need to learn that wise question that he asked when the Lord appeared to him: Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do? (Acts 9:6).”

The Metropolitan also emphasized that God is always present in our lives, even though we may not always sense His presence.

“But there are cases when the Lord appears to a person in a special way: either in some deep sorrow, or in illness, or in prosperity. When such a special meeting takes place and we understand that the Lord is near, we should ask: ‘Lord, what should I do, how can I learn to do Thy holy will, which is our life, which is holy, pleasing and perfect?’” said Metropolitan Onuphry.

And the Lord will serve respond and show us what needs to be corrected in our lives.

“May the Lord, through the prayers of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, grant us zeal for faith, and reason, and humility before God, asking God ‘What should I do?’” the Ukrainian primate continued.

“May the Lord send peace to our land that they might cease shooting and killing each other, that the grace of God might fill the hearts of all of us, and that we might pass this earthly life in joy and thanksgiving to God and that we might be accounted worthy in the eternal and future life to be where Sts. Peter and Paul are—in the Heavenly Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ,” His Beatitude concluded.
