The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has composed and issued its own textbook on Orthodox Christianity for 8th, 9th, and 11th graders. On Monday, the volume was approved by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, reports the press service of the Bulgarian Church.

The Ministry evaluates textbooks on both content and graphic design and printing.

Church-produced textbooks for 1st-5th graders and 6th-7th graders were previously approved and are now used throughout Bulgaria and abroad.

The textbooks address theological, historical, bioethical, and social questions, “giving a correct orientation to young men and women in times dominated by a great polarization of opinions and at the same time a confusing worldview and religious pluralism.”

“The BOC skillfully offers young people to delve into its tried and unchanging faith and its unsurpassed evangelical morality,” the report reads. “Thus, the Holy Church reaffirms to new generations that being virtuous isn’t old-fashioned.”

The new textbooks will be used beginning with the coming school year. The Church also intends to produce textbooks for 10th and 12th graders.
