Group Baptism celebrated in Tanzania

Iringa, Tanzania, August 29, 2022

Another mass Baptism was recently celebrated in Tanzania.

Such celebrations are a common occurrence throughout Africa, including in Tanzania. And with the blessing of Metropolitan Agathonikos of Arusha and Central Tanzania of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, another large group of catechumens have received Holy Illumination at the Kintamali Missionary Center, the St. Dionysios of Olympus Missionary Center reported yesterday.

The new Orthodox Christians include several families with children and people of all ages from various villages.

The volunteers Angel Lazcano from Spain and Spyros Dervisis from London helped in the celebration of the Sacrament and became the Godparents for the newly illumined children.

A group of 29 former Protestants, including pastors, were baptized into holy Orthodoxy in Malawi by a priest of the Russian Church’s African Exarchate earlier this month.
