Petropavlosvsk, Kiev Province, Ukraine, October 5, 2022
Parishioners of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church were able to defend their church against violent seizure by members of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” on Sunday.
While there have been many cases of police simply watching as churches are taken over, in this case, they stepped in and helped the faithful protect the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in the village of Petropavlovsk in the Kiev Province.
The schismatics arrived early in the morning and erected a tent where they served their “Liturgy,” which lasted about half an hour, reports the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Church.
They then headed for the church building, but the Orthodox faithful stood their ground and defended their church, and clashes broke out by the church.
When the police arrived on the scene, they managed to stopped the provocation and prevent the schismatics from taking over the church.
Earlier, the schismatics held a meeting of the territorial community and illegally re-registered the parish. They’ve also threatened the rector Fr. Vasily Brinzei and his family.
