Peć, Kosovo, October 14, 2022
His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Church was ceremoniously enthroned today on the feast of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God at the ancient Patriarchate of Peć in Kosovo.
Pat. Porfirije was elected the 46th primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church on February 18 last year and was enthroned in Belgrade the next day. Today’s ceremonial enthronement commemorates the importance of the Patriarchate of Peć, which became the seat of the Serbian Patriarchs in the 14th century.
His Holiness presided over the Liturgy, joined by numerous hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Budapest of the Russian Orthodox Church and His Eminence Metropolitan Petar of Prespa and Pelagonia of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, the Serbian Church reports.
The rite of enthronement to the throne of the Archbishop of Peć and Patriarch of Serbia was served following the Liturgy.
In his speech, His Holiness told the faithful that the main reason he was in Peć today was “to pray together with you for all people, for the community of love, peace, and good that Christ the Lord and His Holy Mother desire.”
He also called upon the people to pray for the Albanians who live in Kosovo, so they can all live together in peace.
And speaking of the importance of the Patriarchate of Peć, the Serbian primate emphasized that: “Here we were born for Christ, here in the Patriarchate of Peć, Dečani, Gračanica, Holy Archangels and other Prizren temples, we saw the true light, received the Spirit of Heaven, and gained true faith by bowing to the indivisible Trinity.”
