The village of Lower Kalskag in southwestern Alaska suffered a great loss on November 19 when the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov was destroyed in a fire.
His Grace Bishop Alexei of Sitka and Alaska announced the sorrowful news at the Diocesan Assembly on November 19-20, the diocese reports.
Bp. Alexei also recorded an appeal video, calling on all to pray for the village and parish community and for those who are able to contribute to the building of a new church to the glory of God:

The Alaskan Diocesan Assembly also produced a new mission statement, explaining the diocese’s goal of evangelizing of all of Alaska.
The Holy Archangel Michael and All Angels Skete in Weatherby, Missouri, also suffered a devastating tragedy earlier this month, when a fire broke out, destroying the chapel and main buildings.
