As the birthplace of the holy Orthodox faith and Church, the Holy Land constantly draws pilgrims from all across the Orthodox world.
Over the weekend, hierarchs from the Jerusalem and Bulgarian Patriarchates and the Moldovan Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) concelebrated at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of the Lord’s Tomb, together with clergy from Russia, Moldova, Romania, and France, reports the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem.
With the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, the nighttime Sunday Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Aristovoulos of Madaba (Jerusalem) with His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir of Chișinău (Moldova), Bishop John of Soroca (vicar of the Chișinău Diocese), and His Grace Bishop Zion of Velichka (Bulgaria), as well as numerous clergy from Russia, Moldova, Romania, and France.
The Liturgy was celebrated in Greek, Slavonic, Romanian, and Moldovan.
At the end of the service, the large pilgrimage group from the Moldovan Church, led by Met. Vladimir, was warmly received by the senior sacristan of the Holy Sepulchre, His Eminence Archbishop Isidoros of Hierapolis.
Earlier, on Friday, December 9, the hierarchs and clergy of the Moldovan delegation served at the Church of the Nativity on the site of the cave where our Lord Jesus Christ was born in the flesh. The pilgrims also enjoyed an audience with the Patriarch of Jerusalem that same day.
