In late March, the governing board of the Conference of European Churches accepted the membership application of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine.”
Therefore, the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church resolved at its May session to suspend its membership in the European organization until further notice. Therefore, the Serbian Church is not participating in the General Assembly of the Conference that is currently underway in Tallinn, Estonia.
A letter explaining the Serbian Church’s decision was published by the Telegram channel PravBlog.
The Conference of European Churches is “a fellowship bringing together 113 churches from Orthodox, Protestant, and Anglican traditions from all over Europe for dialogue, advocacy, and joint action.”
The Orthodox Churches belong to the Conference are the Churches of Albania, Cyprus, the Czech Lands and Slovakia, Estonia (Constantinople), Finland (Constantinople), Greece, Poland, Romania, Russia (suspended membership since 2009), and Serbia (suspended membership).
