The Holy Dormition-Pskov Caves Monastery celebrated its patronal feast and the 550th anniversary of its founding this week.

The monastery is considered to have been founded in 1473 when St. Jonah built the Holy Dormition Church on a hill near the Kamenets stream.

The joyous celebration began with the All-Night Vigil on Sunday night, led by His Eminence Metropolitan Tikhon of Pskov, the abbot of the monastery, and a host of clerics:

On Monday, Met. Tikhon celebrated the Divine Liturgy together with a host of monastery and visiting clergy. Numerous pilgrims from all across Russia and neighboring countries were present to celebrate with the monastics, reports the Pskov Caves Monastery.

At the end of the Liturgy, a traditional procession with thousands of people took place around the monastery. During the festive moleben on the monastery square, Met. Tikhon blessed the sculptural compositions created for the 550th anniversary.

One sculpture is of a grandmother leading her grandson to church, in honor of all the Russian grandmothers who have protected the Church throughout its history:
