A monk of the Holy Dormition-Sts. Nicholas and Basil Monastery was injured during shelling by Ukrainian armed forces in the Donetsk village of Nikolskoye late last month.

Archimandrite Lavrenty was slightly wounded and has been hospitalized, the monastery press service reported on September 30.

Yesterday, the monastery reported that Fr. Lavrenty and a village resident who was also injured will be released from the hospital in about a week. “They are on the mend,” the report reads.

The monastery, founded by the beloved Elder Zosima (Sokur, †2002) has been continually shelled from the Ukrainian side throughout the war. Often they were intentionally shelled, even though the monastery is not a military target and had no Russian military presence nearby. 80% of the monastery’s buildings have been damaged or destroyed, and other inhabitants, including refugees, have died in attacks.

A hieromonk and a schemanun died in an attack in late January of this year.
