The lives of the Apostles Peter and Paul clearly tell us that they were people like us, who sinned and denied God, but through repentance cleansed their sins and became heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven. This is real life.
When we see a great man, we have not animal fear, but reverence: What a great, virtuous life! May this majestic fear of God and the fear of sinning in our sinful abomination accompany us in our spiritual life. Let us all reflect on the life of the righteous one.
It is the most fearful thing when we do not realize that people suffer through our shortcomings. Foolish parents interfere with their children’s lives. But if you can’t manage to fix something, why terrorize your children, why torture them?
We recognize our unworthiness, we recognize our wretchedness, our pride, our distrust and our impure thoughts we recognize, O Lord! Our spiritual apparel is dark. But a sigh is heard today: “Make the robe of my soul to shine, O Giver of light, and save me.”
