Pochaev, Ternopil Province, Ukraine, August 27, 2024
Tens of thousands of faithful Ukrainian Orthodox Christians arrived in procession at the Pochaev Lavra on Sunday, August 25, just days before the monastery’s patronal feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.
A group of pilgrims set out from Kamenets-Podolsk on, 125 miles away, on August 19, the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. They were joined by thousands more along the way, and in the end, about 30,000 reached the monastery in one day, with more coming in time for the Dormition.
It took almost 40 minutes for all the participants to enter through the monastery’s gates, reports the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
During the course of the pilgrimage, Ukrainian authorities, who routinely refer to the Ukrainian faithful as enemies and even “demons,” adopted and signed into law the bill for banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Nevertheless, the people remain faithful and dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ.
