His Grace Bishop Job of Stuttgart (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia) led Orthodox Christian participation in Munich’s fifth annual March for Life on Bright Saturday, April 18, addressing a predominantly Christian crowd at Königsplatz before heading the Orthodox contingent through the city streets with crosses, banners, and icons.

“Christ is risen! Χριστός Ανέστη! Христос воскресе!” Bp. Job began his speech to the assembled marchers, reminding them that Christians remain in the Paschal season, celebrating the victory of life over death, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists.

“Christ is Life, and He has conquered death. I hope that this life can also be the motto of our event today and that we celebrate it in the light of Christ,” His Grace said.

Bp. Job specifically addressed the Orthodox Christians who had come to the rally carrying icons, crosses, and church banners, thanking them for “fulfilling their civic duty and openly taking a stand.”

According to the bishop, the march represents more than a political or social debate. “It’s about publicly witnessing that life is stronger than death and that Christians are called to give this witness in the public square,” he said.

He concluded his remarks by saying, “I wish us all that the light of Christ goes before us today.”

The march advocates for the protection of unborn children as well as elderly, sick, and vulnerable people. It opposes abortion and euthanasia while promoting support services for women and families facing pregnancy conflicts.

According to police, up to 4,500 people participated in the procession through Munich’s city center. Orthodox believers marched in a unified group, accompanying the procession with prayers and Paschal hymns.

The day began with a moleben at the local Serbian Orthodox Church, followed by the central rally at Königsplatz and the demonstration march through the city center. An evening Vigil was held in the Serbian church. On Sunday, the Divine Liturgy at St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Church in Ludwigsfeld concluded the program.
