Düsseldorf, May 26, 2026
A Romanian Orthodox parish in Düsseldorf marked a historic milestone on Thursday as His Eminence Metropolitan Serafim of Germany, Central and Northern Europe laid the foundation stone for its first permanent church building.
The rite took place on May 21, the feast day of the Ascension of the Lord and of Sts. Constantine and Helen, bringing together clergy, local officials, and members of the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Parish, the diocese reports.
Met. Serafim celebrated the foundation stone service alongside an assembly of priests and deacons. In his address, he congratulated the community and parish priest for their efforts to build a church of their own, emphasizing the special calling of creating “a place of rest for God.”
A particularly meaningful speech came from Archpriest Radu Constantin Miron, who was baptized by Archpriest Emilian Vasiloschi, the founder of the Düsseldorf parish.
Parish priest Archpriest Iosif-Cristian Rădulescu thanked all attendees for their participation and support, praising the community’s “strong spirit of unity in prayer and service” that made this new beginning possible.
The service concluded with a fellowship meal prepared by parish members.
The Romanian Orthodox Church maintains a significant presence in Germany, with approximately 200 parishes and three monasteries.
