A new German translation of the New Testament, Psalms, and Biblical Odes according to Orthodox tradition has been released by the Monastery of the Annunciation–St. Justin of Celije Hermitage, in Unterufhausen, Germany (Serbian Orthodox Church).
The edition, titled “Das Neue Testament, die Psalmen und die biblischen Oden der Orthodoxie,” is the first Orthodox translation of the New Testament and Psalter available in German.
Unlike previously existing German translations, this new publication is based not on reconstructed critical editions, but on the Greek Patriarchal text used in Orthodox liturgical services. The publisher, Edition Hagia Sophia, describes the work as combining fidelity to the original text with the spiritual and liturgical tradition of Orthodoxy.
The New Testament translation was carried out by Schema-Archimandrite Justin of the monastery, together with Hieromonk Nil (Lazarenco) and Johannes Klimmeck. The Psalms and Biblical Odes were translated by His Eminence Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and His Grace Bishop Job of Stuttgart—the ROCOR bishops in Germany—and Schema-Archimandrite Justin, Archpriest Nikolai Artemoff, and Archpriest Martinos Petzold.
The book was produced by the Monastery of the Annunciation–St. Justin Hermitage, founded in Unterufhausen, Germany, in 2011.
