Cameroon and Chad, July 31, 2026

Several mass Baptisms were held in the African countries of Cameroon and Chad earlier this month, as clergy from the Russian Orthodox Church’s Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa visited local communities in the region.
From July 12 to 16, 2026, Fr. Pavel Atangana, dean of the Central Church District of Cameroon, and other clerics visited a number of communities in northern Cameroon and in Chad, where they baptized numerous local residents.
On July 12, the feast day of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, 20 people were baptized at the Sts. Peter and Paul parish in the village of Dobinga, in Cameroon’s Northern Province.
On July 15, 63 people were baptized, and two others were received into the Church through Chrismation.
In another community in Chad, during the same period, 65 more people were baptized, including a village elder.
The following day, July 16, in the town of Gouin, Cameroon, another 32 residents were baptized, and one person was received through Chrismation.
The overwhelming majority of the catechumens had previously practiced animism. The community elders and other newly baptized Christians expressed joy at entering the Church of Christ.
