Metropolitan Konstantin of Cairo and North Africa, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church, received 13 local residents into the Orthodox Church and consecrated the foundation stone for a new church during a visit to the parish of St. Sophia the Martyr in Gitima, Kenya, on August 12.
The Metropolitan baptized eight residents, while five others were received through the Sacrament of Chrismation, the Exarchate reports.
The visit came as part of a broader trip to Kenya by Metropolitan Konstantin. Following the service, Metropolitan Konstantin met with catechists who assist the dean at parishes in the area, speaking and praying with them.

The Metropolitan also inspected construction of a clinic being built by the Exarchate and blessed motorcycles donated by benefactors from Russia to all the clergy of the deanery for pastoral and missionary use.
The Metropolitan later led a general assembly of the Nyeri Deanery clergy, where various matters concerning the Exarchate’s work in Kenya were discussed.
