Lack of Funds for the Pringipos Orphanage, Turkey

The Turkish press stated that the Orphanage of Pringipos, the largest wood building in Europe, claimed for 47 years by both Turkey and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, is now abandoned.

According to the newspaper “Apoyevmatini” of Istanbul, there is no economic source to finance the renovation of the historical building.

The director of the Press Office of the Patriarchate, father Dositheos Anagnostopoulos, said regarding this issue: “When I refer to the economic crisis I do not speak only about the crisis in Greece but I refer to all the Orthodox Christians in the world. Meanwhile, nobody has undertaken the renovation of the building. The Patriarchate has an architect but he can not get involved due to the particular situation.”
