On March 18, in the residence of the Metropolitan Savva of Warsaw and All Poland, the spring session of the Synod of Bishops of the Polish Orthodox Church, unprecedented decision was made—the first in the history of the Orthodox Church. A Church that currently lives according to the new style calendar has accepted a resolution to return to the old (Julian) calendar.

“Taking into consideration that the majority of parishes in the Polish Church (96%) celebrate [Church] feasts according to the old style (Julian calendar), and at the request of the faithful, the Synod of Bishops has canceled the resolution of the Synod from April 24, 1924 concerning the change to the new, Gregorian calendar, and resolved to return to the Julian calendar beginning June 15, 2014 (new style), on the Sunday of All Saints,” reports the official site of the Polish Orthodox Church.

The site also reports that the new style may be preserved at all the parishes where there is such a need.

All Orthodox Christians follow the Orthodox Paschalia, and therefore have the feasts of Pascha, and all the commemorations which depend of the date of Pascha on the same date in a given year. Since the beginning of the Apostles fast always depends on the date of Pascha in a year, all these Orthodox supposedly start the Apostles fast on the same day, but they end the fast on a different date, depending on whether they follow the church calendar (Julian calendar) or the so called "New" calendar, which is the civil date.

I will say it once again: our goal is always salvation. The world changes, but the Orthodox faith does not. We should not conform to the world; the world should conform to the faith. Circumstances in life can change, but the strivings of the human soul remain forever unchanged. A person can strive for only one thing—for fullness, which is Jesus Christ. This is the most important thing in the life of every person who believes, and not only of the monk.

I do not understand why people want to reject.the Julian calendar. Is it because they want the Church feasts linked to the seasons, like. always have CHRISTMAS in the European winter. I live in Australia and Chritmas is in the middle of summer. We still go to church and pray , so the fact that in a thousand years time Chritmas will be in European spring is not important , it is retaining the traditions that is important nt.
