Moscow, May 30, 2014

One of the participants in the ceremony of laying the foundation to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour Archpriest Leonid Kalinin tells about unusual event that took place during the ceremony on January 7, 1995, and was considered a miracle.

"When we came up to the place where we had to lay a foundation stone, the sun suddenly appeared in the sky covered with clouds. And when the Patriarch started reading a prayer, I saw the golden fire coming from the sky, it was going through me and other people, and covered the building site. There were hundreds of people, and they said they had a feeling of something unusual," the priest said in his interview published on Friday in the Kultura paper.

He was standing with a church banner, in front of Patriarch Alexy II and government officials and "saw how Yury Luzhkov made a sign of cross several times and acting head of presidential administration Sergey Filatov and Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin, both in hats, were smiling and saying something to the mayor, as he later told they laughed at him.

"However, when I saw the golden fire Chernomyrdin and Filatov suddenly stopped talking, stopped smiling, took off their hats and made a sign of cross," Father Leonid said.
