Serbian Church urges state and citizens to help migrants

August 31, 2015

A SPC statement urged state authorities and citizens to continue to offer assistance to "these new homeless people from the East."

The statement added that the Holy Synod of the SPC met on Wednesday and approved a report from the Church's humanitarian foundation Covekoljublje("Philanthropy") about its activities to help the migrants in our country that started "during the first days they appeared."

The foundation has worked with the Commissariat for Refugees and foreign partners to distribute food, hygiene items, packages for babies and containers with showers and toilets.

"As Covekoljublje and the SPC have done in the past decade with hundreds of thousands of domestic refugees and IDPs, they help the suffering people from Syria and Iraq, other Middle Eastern countries, Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa with the same sense of love and sacrifice," the statement said.

The SPC added that those who wish to help collect aid for refugees on their way from Presevo and Zajecar to the northern borders of Serbia can speak to local priests, or contact the Covekoljublje charity at beograd@covekoljublje.org, or using these phone numbers: (+38111) 36 72 971, 30 65 445.
