Just as the sign of the Cross corresponds to the Giver of Life, Jesus Christ, signs prevalent throughout yoga correspond to the influence of Shiva, Lord of Death. These signs and patterns include diagrams and amulets supposedly possessing occult powers in astrological and magical forms, and are known as mantras, mandalas, and yantras.

Too often, we mostly identify with the airport on top of our head. This airport welcomes compulsive thoughts taking off, landing, circling around us. We're constantly debating with ourselves, assessing everything. Whether good or bad, the fact our will is independent says we're not in harmony with God. Most of us don't hear God speaking in our midst because we're tuned in to this airport.

So Christ presents us today with two men, one rich with worldly thoughts and another the testament to the hesychastic, ascetic life. We can choose which of these men we want to be.

The postures of yoga are not religiously neutral. All of the classic asanas have spiritual significance. For example, as one journalist reports, the Sun Salutations, - perhaps the best-known series of asanas, or postures, of hatha yoga - the type most commonly practiced in America - is literally a Hindu ritual.
