The Russian Church’s Holy Synod meeting that was scheduled to be held today has been postponed until next month, the Synodal Department for Relations Between the Church and Society and the Media told RIA-Novosti yesterday evening.
It was expected that the hierarchs would make a statement evaluating Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria’s recent decision to recognize the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” and commemorate its primate, Epiphany Dumenko.
Patriarch Kirill stopped commemorating Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens when he officially entered into communion with the schismatics late last month.
The schedule change comes after His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem announced an invitation to the primates of all the Local Orthodox Churches to gather in Jordan to discuss issues surrounding the tense problem of Church unity.
