The quarantine regime in place at Kiev’s Goloseevsky-Holy Protection Monastery since mid-April has been lifted, the monastery reported on Friday, May 8.

However, while the quarantine from the secular authorities has been lifted, the monastery will remain closed to pilgrims for the time being, by decision of the abbot, His Grace Bishop Isaac.

“Thank God that the Lord enlightened the abbot of the monastery to close the monastery under quarantine in time. Vladyka blessed to close the monastery starting April 17, 2020. Unfortunately, we were not able to avoid the disease, but we managed to avoid the large-scale spread of the disease within the monastery,” reads the monastery statement.

“Today, by the grace of God and the care of good people, everything is calm on the territory of the monastery and everyone is healthy, according to doctors and confirmed by tests.”

The monastery thanked Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko for the decision to quarantine the holy habitation on April 22, as well as doctors, charity workers, and everyone who prayed for the monastery and its inhabitants.

There were 12 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, the Mayor said at that time.

The monastery also notes that many elderly migrants and refugeees live on the territory of the monastery, and, “for the sake of their life and health, we must follow the recommendations of doctors,” keeping the monastery closed to pilgrims.
