Belgrade, November 16, 2020
His Holiness Patriarch of Serbia (+ 2009) was and is greatly beloved by the Serbian Orthodox faithful and the Orthodox faithful throughout the world. Hundreds of thousands filled the streets 11 years ago to bid farewell to their holy archpastor.
And yesterday, Sunday, November 15, Pat. Pavle was prayerfully commemorated on the 11th anniversary of his repose, as Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Stephen of Remesiana celebrated the Divine Liturgy and a memorial parastas for both Pat. Pavle and the newly-departed Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro at Rakovica Monastery near Belgrade, reports the Metropolis of Montenegro.
Another memorial service was then served at the graves of Pat. Pavle and Patriarch Dimitrije (+ 1930), the first Patriarch of the revived Serbian Patriarchate.
Bp. Stephen emphasized that the strength of Orthodoxy is in its community, and that we should fight to be together, because when we are together, we will be people, which Pat. Pavle always emphasized.
A number of monuments to Pat. Pavle have been erected throughout Serbia, Kosovo, and abroad. Most recently, a new monument was unveiled in Republika Srpska in honor of the anniversary of the great Patriarch’s birthday on September 11.
