Bukoba, Tanzania, January 26, 2021
The clergy of the Diocese of Bukoba of the Patriarchate of Alexandria are grateful to God for the financial assistance they will be receiving from Vatopedi Monastery on Mt. Athos.
The Diocese earlier requested that the monastery offer assistance, and on Saturday, January 23, the monastery called and said they would cover the priests’ monthly salaries, reports the Friends of the Bukoba Mission in Tanzania.
“I thank Elder Ephraim and the brethren of the monastery for this consolation and support of the poor and exhausted priests who carry Christ to Bukoba,” the Friends write.
Despite the difficult and unconducive conditions, priests are carrying out important missionary work in Tanzania, bringing many people to the holy Orthodox faith.
80 Baptisms were celebrated last week in Kimouli, Tanzania. More than 500 Tanzanians received Holy Baptism in February 2019, and another 230 in January 2020. In September, a mass wedding for the Orthodox faithful of the Maasai tribe in Tanzania was held, and in February, the first Orthodox monastery in Tanzania celebrated its first Divine Liturgy.
