Ukraine has made significant strides in the fight against abortion in recent years.

According to the government resource opendatabot.ua, the number of abortions has dropped by 60% over the past decade, from 163,668 in 2011, to 64,574 in 2020.

A total of 1,096,415 abortions were registered in the last 10 years between public and private health institutions.

Abortions are permitted up to the twelfth week of pregnancy in Ukraine. Between 12 and 28 weeks, an abortion is possible on medical, social, or personal grounds with the consent of a commission of doctors.

There are efforts in the governments to further curb the scourge of abortion. For example, in 2017, Deputy Dimitry Golubov introduced a bill proposing to ban abortions except in cases where the mother’s health is at risk or the conception was a result of rape.

And, of course, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church preaches the pro-life teaching of the Orthodox Church and holds many pro-life events and provides services to women in crisis pregnancies and other difficult situations.

Yesterday, OrthoChristian reported on a Ukrainian priest who founded a center for orphans at his church and has adopted 25 children together with his matushka.
