Churches and states around the world have been offering their help to fight the massive fires and help those suffering from the fires in Greece.

Last week, OrthoChristian reported that the Greek Archdiocese of America is running a fundraiser to help support the thousands of victims.

The Metropolis of Ilia of the Church of Greece is also among those offering assistance, providing one of its institutions, in Pelopio in southwestern Greece, for the accommodation of fire victims, reports Orthodoxia.info.

The building is fully equipped and can accommodate dozens of people for longer stays. The Metropolis has also been providing temporary housing for fire victims in other areas.

“Fires are always catastrophic. Fortunately no people have died and the damage is only material. The municipalities of Ancient Olympia and Pyrgos are now trying to deal with this,” Metropolitan Germanos of Ilia commented.

According to the Metropolitan, the Ministry of Education reached out to the Metropolis to ask if it could accommodate any victims. The hierarch informed the Ministry that the Metropolis was already offering temporary accommodation to 16 people who had been released from the Pyrgos Hospital, but that it also had its building in Pelopio.

The building there is new and fully furnished, including a kitchen and heating. Up to 60 people or several families can stay at one time.
