Bancheny, Ukraine, October 19, 2021
A new medical center named in honor of the “Blessed Surgeon,” the Holy Hierarch Luke of Simferopol, was festively opened at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s Holy Ascension-Bancheny Monastery yesterday.
The center was consecrated by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, with the participation of seven other hierarchs, including the monastery abbot His Eminence Metropolitan Longin, and several clergymen, reports the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
After the rite of consecration, His Beatitude offered a homily, noting that man consists of both body and soul. Whereas the church is the hospital for the soul, our bodies require their own hospitals, he said.
He also thanked all the benefactors who helped build the medical center and wished God’s help on all its doctors, nurses, and staff.
Watch the blessing service:
Met. Longin and the Holy Ascension-Bancheny Monastery take care of more than 200 orphans at its center in a nearby village. The monastery also operates a treatment-rehabilitation center at the monastery. His Eminence began adopting children in the early 1990s, and in 2008 was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine for his outstanding care for orphans.
Met. Onuphry traditionally meets with the children from Bancheny and other such homes at Pascha and Nativity.
