Russian prisoners participate in iconography contest (+VIDEO)

The results of the Orthodox iconography contest “Canon” were recently announced in Karelia. Prisoners from throughout the region participated in the competition for the first time this year, reports Seldon News.

According to the rules of the competition, the icons submitted for the competition were to depict saints who lived in the Synodal era of the Russian Church, from 1721 to 1917.

The contest is part of the “Not by Number, but by Humility” All-Russian review of the religious activities of convicts.

The jury included employees from a local group for educational and social work with convicts. The top icons depicted the beloved St. Seraphim of Sarov.

In the Moscow region, the winning icons were of the Apostle Peter and St. Luke of Simferopol.

The best works will be sent to Moscow for the final stage of the competition.
