Unknown people vandalized several graves in the village of Kurash, Rivne Province, Ukraine, Sunday night. Among them, that of Archpriest Vasily Ivanichko was especially desecrated.
The recently departed Fr. Vasily was the Orthodox priest in the village for 30 years, and was known for his stand against the Patriarchate of Constantinople’s violent schismatics of the so-called “Orthodox Church of Ukraine.”
Despite the efforts of Fr. Vasily and his parishioners, the schismatics managed to seize the Church of the Transfiguration two years ago, and the Orthodox community has been forced to celebrate the services in Fr. Vasily’s house ever since.
The desecrated tombstones were discovered by the local faithful returning from the Sunday Liturgy, reports the Union of Orthodox Journalists.
Locals called the police and investigators began a pre-trial investigation into the desecration.
