Kišnica, Kosovo, December 28, 2021
Attacks against holy sites in Kosovo and Metohija significantly rose this year, and the Serbian Orthodox faithful have had to endure another attack in the past week.
Vandals attacked and desecrated an Orthodox cemetery near Gračanica Monastery in the village of Kišnica, which was discovered by locals and recorded by the Office for Kosovo and Metohija under the Serbian Government on Sunday, December 26.
Kišnica has an ethnically mixed population.
Eight tombstones were attacked, with six of them being completely destroyed. “It seems it’s not enough to openly demonstrate religious intolerance towards the Serbian people living in Kosovo and Metohija; Albanian hooligans don’t give any rest even to dead Serbs and their graves,” the Office writes.
The Office also reports that ethnic conflicts in Kosovo rose by 50% over the past year, including 20 attacks against holy sites of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Meanwhile, the Kosovo government proclaims it as “an oasis of peace and harmony,” the Office notes.
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija has repeatedly notified international representatives about threats to Orthodox holy sites and has also invested heavily in the restoration, repair, and maintenance of Orthodox cemeteries and chapels, and will also restore the newly attacked cemetery.
