The “Missionary Center in Iringa, Tanzania was filled today with happy voices, African colors, and manifestations of joy and love,” the St. Dionysios of Olympus Missionary Center reported on Saturday, July 2.

On the day, 15 couples were “united in the sacred bonds of marriage” with the blessing of Bishop Agathonikos of Arusha and Central Tanzania of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.

“Weddings in Africa may not have the fancy decorations and grand receptions, but they are full of the grace of the Holy Spirit. The joy of the couples is transmitted to everyone,” writes the St. Dionysios Center.

Mass Baptisms and weddings are a common occurrence in African parishes. OrthoChristian previously reported that 9 couples were married in Arusha in September 2020, and 8 were wed in Kiamantzura in May of this year, on the same day that 155 were baptized into Christ. Another 61 people were baptized a week later in Bukoba.
