As president of the House of Love foundation, Metropolitan Markos of Chios granted the Association of Disabled Persons free use of approximately 5,380 sq. ft. of foundation space to house the BRIDGE social intervention program to work with the disabled, the Metropolis reports.
Met. Markos blessed and opened the new BRIDGE facilities on June 24. The Metropolitan emphasized that the name of the organization is also a title for the Theotokos: “Hail, bridge passing from Earth to Heaven,” and presented them with an icon of Mother of God.
Additionally, as president of the Chios’ Struggle Against Tuberculosis foundation, Met. Markos allocated $20,485 (20,000 euros) to complete the chemotherapy patient day room at Chios General Hospital.
The hierarch suggested that the room be named in honor of St. Angelis the Physician and donated a large icon of the saint when he blessed the space on July 15. A piece of cloth soaked in the blood of the saint was also presented as a gift to help the sick.
Met. Markos also noted that the hospital has received about $102,430 (100,000 euros) from the anti-tuberculosis foundation over the past three years.
