One hierarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church is offering the students in his diocese a valuable Christmas gift this year.

In all, 30,000 prayer books were donated by His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan of Timișoara to be distributed by local religion teachers, reports the Metropolis of Banat.

The archpastor wanted every student in his diocese to “benefit from a prayer book, which would be of spiritual benefit and for their strengthening in the righteous faith.”

“In this contemporary desert of our society, there’s a need, now more than ever, for the dew of the Holy Spirit, which is poured out on earth following the tearful prayer of man,” His Eminence writes in the foreword to the prayer book.

The prayer books include the morning and evening prayer rules, prayers for travel and sickness, prayers of parents for children and of children for parents, a prayer for the country, the Akathist to Our Sweetest Lord Jesus Christ, and the Akathist to the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos.
