On September 24, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria, the Holy Dormition of the Mother of God Orthodox Center for Addiction Treatment will open in the Vidin Diocese.

Pat. Daniil was the Metropolitan of the Vidin Diocese before his election to the Patriarchal throne and continues to temporarily administer the diocese.

The addiction center, located in the Bdinsky Monastery, is a completely new building, built with donations, offering a fully functional kitchen and dining area and bedrooms for patients, the Center reports.

“Our center was created to provide help and support to people suffering from various forms of addiction. Regardless of whether the problems are related to alcohol, drugs, gambling, or other forms of addiction, we value and respect the individual's personality. Together we can deal with problems and overcome challenges on the path to building a new life,” the Center writes.

In 2021, OrthoChristian reported that the Vidin Diocese opened a soup kitchen for the poor, and in April of this year, an Orthodox elementary school was opened.

The Center’s team consists of professionals with many years of experience working with addicts and people with problematic behaviors: a clergyman, psychotherapist, psychiatrist, social worker and educators, people with personal experience.
