Despite the ongoing persecution and propaganda against the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, its dioceses are remaining faithful to it. A number of dioceses have already openly expressed their support for the Church’s canonical status as a self-governing autonomous body and for their primate His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, and the latest to join them is the Alexandrian Diocese.

At a recent meeting chaired by His Grace Bishop Bogolep of Alexandria and Svetlovodsk, the diocesan clergy testified to their support of Met. Onuphry and their loyalty to the canonical Church. The resulting statement has been published on the site of the Alexandrian Diocese.

Having examined the “historical and canonical background of the Patriarchate of Constantinople’s illegal actions in Ukraine,” the clergy stressed the need to consolidate efforts to maintain a stable situation in the religious sphere of the region,” where the clergy “desire to unswervingly fulfill their ministry within the canonical Church, remaining faithful to God and His Truth.”

Bp. Bogolep also stressed to his clergy “the need to continue to develop spiritual-practical activities and, despite the constant attempts of certain forces to discredit the Church, to be an example of the ‘good Christian life’ and to provide comprehensive support to those in need and to support the suffering, as no event should overshadow our faith and Christian honor or darken our hearts and diminish our hope.”

The same support for the canonical Church and Met. Onuphry has also been expressed by the Dioceses of Zaporozhye, Kharkov, Voznesensk, Tulchin, Rivne, Kherson, Kirovograd, Severodonetsk, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk, Krivoy Rog, Kamenka, Zaporozhye, and Poltava.
