Zhytomyr, Ukraine, November 12, 2018
Despite the ongoing persecution and propaganda against the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, its dioceses are remaining faithful to it. A number of dioceses have already openly expressed their support for the Church’s canonical status as a self-governing autonomous body and for their primate His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, and another has joined them—the Diocese of Zhytomyr.
During a meeting of the Diocesan Council headed by His Eminence Metropolitan Nikodim of Zhytomyr and Novograd-Volyn, the clergy unanimously expressed their support for His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, the primate of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Met. Nikodim wrote on his Facebook page an hour ago.
His Eminence also added that, in connection with the turbulent events in the life of the Ukrainian Church, the clergy of the diocese called for the strengthening of the faithful’s prayers for the Church and Met. Onuphry.
The same support for the canonical Church and Met. Onuphry has also been expressed by the Dioceses of Lugansk, Mukachevo, Alexandria, Zaporozhye, Kharkov, Voznesensk, Tulchin, Rivne, Kherson, Kirovograd, Severodonetsk, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk, Krivoy Rog, Kamenka, Zaporozhye, and Poltava.
Met. Nikodim also accepted the clergy’s proposal to serve a moleben for the beginning of every good deed tomorrow at noon, just before the bishops of the Ukrainian Church are scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in the Kiev Caves Lavra.
