Isantbul, May 17, 2021

In November 2019, several men broke into the residence of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople in the Phanar section of Istanbul. The Patriarch wasn’t home at the time, and no items were stolen.

At the end of November, four local men were arrested and charged with the break-in.

According to a new report from ethnos.gr, the police continued to investigate the incident together with a number of other robberies from around the same time, and more members of the same gang, known as the Elite, have been arrested.

Six of the eight members of the gang are currently in police custody, though the leader, Ali Riza Ts, is still on the loose.

The gang broke into the homes of 14 famous actors, journalists, and businessmen over the course of 2 months, making off with $1.8 million (15 million lira).
