His Eminence Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus has tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to an announcement from the Metropolis today, His Eminence was showing mild symptoms and underwent a COVID test, which came back positive.

The Metropolitan is receiving treatment from trusted doctors and will remain in his cell until August 28, when he will serve Vespers for the feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist. He will not receive visitors or take any phone calls during this time.

His Eminence states that the wishes that the Panagia might cover all those who are sick and that they might have the patience and the faith of the saints.

Polymnia Evangelou: Have you ever tried doing a Google search before making paranoid accusations: METROPOLITAN NEOPHYTOS OF MORPHOU FULLY RECOVERS FROM COVID https://orthochristian.com/141422.html .

Why haven’t you reported that he has made a full recovery and is well? However that does not follow your agenda! You have to try and discredit or talk down about anyone who talks true freedom in God!

Wouldn't it be better to pray for his recovery than to speculate about tests, etc.? Lord have mercy.

Fred Wazen: Fred, please wake up to the fact that COVID exists and that the tests do work, but like everything in this world they are not perfect. There are other indications of COVID, which taken together with the tests, show pretty conclusively that a person has been infected with the coronavirus. Please stop spreading such things, because I have known too many people who said, "the tests don't work, therefore I won't get one", who then got seriously sick with COVID, and some of them died. Even those who didn't die really regret not having gotten treatment in the early stages. So, talk to a real doctor instead of being glued to idiotic internet misinformation and especially stop spreading that misinformation. Who knows but you may be responsible for someone's death by doing what you're doing.

Kevin, this announcement is from his own metropolis' website, so I see no reason do doubt it. Though he has been very critical of the various measures taken, I don't think he has actually denied the existence of COVID, so it shouldn't be unbelievable that he took the test.

I don’t believe he took a test unless I hear it directly from him… This is crazy… His Eminence is as “woke” as they come… He was supposed to go to trial (for not imposing restrictions) and it was delayed and now this “official story” has come out… Lord Have Mercy.

May the Lord grant him a speedy recovery!

It could be a mild flu... In the first instance, I do not wish to receive any further coronavirus testing. My reasons for declining this test are two-fold; firstly, the test currently being deployed to detect COVID-19 infection is the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. This test, however, was not developed for and is not a reliable indicator of the presence of infectious disease. The Nobel-Prize winning inventor of the test, Kary B. Mullis, is quoted as stating: "PCR tests cannot detect free infectious viruses at all” (1). They can detect genetic sequences of viruses, but not viruses themselves. PCR test technology relies on amplifying results many times over. If they are amplified less than about 35 times, no-one will test positive. If they are amplified 60 times, everyone will test positive. So to be clear - a positive PCR test result is not evidence that a person is either unwell with any infection, or in any way infectious to others. It is important to recognize that inappropriate use of PCR tests to misdiagnose infectious disease is not a new phenomenon; in 2007, the presence of positive PCR tests led staff at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in the USA to falsely believe they were in the midst of a pertussis epidemic. Nearly 1,000 health care workers at the hospital in Lebanon, N.H., were given a preliminary test and furloughed from work until their results were in; 142 people were told they appeared to have the disease; and thousands were given antibiotics and a vaccine for protection. Hospital beds were taken out of commission, including some in intensive care. However, nearly a year later, the entire episode was declared a false alarm, since not a single case of whooping cough was confirmed with the definitive test, growing the bacterium, Bordetella pertussis, in the laboratory. Instead, it appears the healthcare workers were probably afflicted with ordinary respiratory diseases like the common cold. According to epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists, this episode occurred because too much faith was placed in a quick and highly sensitive molecular test - the PCR test - that led them astray. Reflecting on the situation, Dr. Cathy A. Petti, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Utah, said the story had one clear lesson. "The big message is that every lab is vulnerable to having false positives," Dr. Petti said. "No single test result is absolute and that is even more important with a test result based on PCR." (2) May our Lord save us and have mercy on us..Amen

I hope the test detected a mild virus and not Covid-19 and nobody will dare harm him.
