New Alexandrian hierarch baptizes dozens in the Congo

More than 5 dozen people were united to Christ in holy Baptism in the Democratic Republic of the Congo during a recent visit hierarchical visit.

During a visit to Dimbelenge in central Congo, Metropolitan Chariton of Kananga celebrated the Sacraments of Baptism and Chrismation for 62 people of all ages, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

Met. Chariton was just consecrated to the episcopate in Cairo in early February.

During his visit, he also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Church of Sts. Vlasios and Anastasia and the Lumière des Nations School.

Orthodoxy is growing quickly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and throughout Africa. Most recently, 346 people were baptized in Kolwezi in January.

Earlier, 117 people were united to Christ in two mass Baptisms in December 2018, another 52 on December 24, 2019, another 30 on December 28 that year, and more than 15 in November 2020.
