A new monastery under construction in the town of Šuljkovac will be the first not only in the Diocese of Šumadija but in the entire Serbian Orthodox Church to be dedicated to the great 20th-century ascetic St. Paisios the Athonite.

In his speech, Bp. Jovan spoke about how pleased he was that St. Paisios was chosen as the patron, because as basically our contemporary, “we feel his prayers that he began to pray as a child, and the prayers of all the holy hermits of Mt. Athos.”

Following the consecration, the bishop, clergy, and faithful all gathered for a meal in the newly built monastic residence building, the foundation of stone of which Bp. Jovan had previously consecrated in May of last year.

In February of this year, the monastery plot was blessed and a cross was erected.
