On the night of September 17-18, the Negru family from the village of Străminoasa, Bacău County, lost their home, their pets, all their belongings, and their livelihood in a devastating fire.

The three children, Matei (2), Miruna (4), and Maya (6) all escaped the fire unscathed, though their grandmother had to be taken to the hospital. The family is currently living with a relative.

The family is close to the Church, and having learned of the tragedy, the local Archdiocese of Roman and Bacău and the local chapter of the Association of Romanian Orthodox Christian Students launched a campaign to rebuild the family’s home, reports the Basilica News Agency.

“We want this family to have a new home. Any help is welcome and we want to help them get over this burden of theirs as quickly as possible,” representatives of the student association said, adding that they especially want to give a sense of hope to the suffering children of the family.

In addition to funds, the Church and students are also looking for electricians, plumbers, and any volunteers who can help building the house.

Food and clothing donations and willing volunteers already began to arrive this week.
