Gornja Rženica, Montenegro, September 20, 2023
The Montenegrin village of Gornja Rženica had a joyous celebration on Sunday, September 17, with the laying of the foundation stone of a new church and the Baptism of more than two dozen locals.
The consecration and laying of the stone, celebrated by His Grace Bishop Metodije of Budimlja and Nikšić, was attended by faithful from several surrounding towns and cities, as well as representatives of the city administration from nearby Plav.
The joy of the beginning of a new church was amplified by the Baptism of 30 residents of the village, reports the Metropolis of Montenegro.
Congratulating the newly baptized and blessing the great work of constructing a church, Bp. Metodije emphasized that “under its vaults, domes, and cross will gather all those wonderful followers of Christ, who yearn for Heavenly water, thirsty for eternal life—the path that our wonderful and glorious ancestors paved for us.”
The new church will be dedicated to St. Alypius the Stylite. And the day’s Baptisms is a “beginning of what should spring from this church, namely the Holy Mysteries through which Divine energies wash over us, and with which we are nourished spiritually, growing to the height and measure of growth not only of our glorious ancestors but of Christ, so that we may reach the Kingdom of Heaven with our souls.”
