July 12 marked the 30th anniversary of the repose of one of the greatest saints of the 20th century.

St. Paisios the Athonite reposed in the Lord on July 12, 1994, at the age of 69, having suffered from cancer. He is buried at the Monastery of St. John the Theologian in Souroti, which he founded, next to the church named for St. Arsenios the Cappadocian, who baptized the future saint in his infancy.

Today, St. Paisios is a greatly beloved, universally venerated saint, with churches dedicated to him throughout the Orthodox world. He was canonized by the Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015.

This year, as every year, thousands of pilgrims arrived at the monastery on July 11–12 to celebrate his holy memory at the All-Night Vigil and Liturgy, waiting several hours in line to venerate his precious relics:

Many of the pilgrims who came from Greece and abroad personally remembered the great saint, who had a major impact on their spiritual lives, reports Vima Orthodoxias.
